We LOVE Where We Rent, Resident Blog Series.

Say hello to Ayeshah, one of our wonderful residents in Madison.

Profession:
     Health Care Professional
Time living with Quintain Living:
     4 years

Please tell us a little bit about yourself, your career and interests.

I work in the public health profession and higher education. My interests are studying languages, travelling to different parts of the world and learning about how people live and make sense of their lives. I also love hiking, running, poetry, and all kinds of music.

What would you say has been your biggest achievement?

Looking back and realising how far I have come from my beginnings in a far-off part of the world to where I am today…and this is not yet the end of my journey, so I guess this question cannot be satisfactorily answered right now! I do hope that by the time my story ends, there will be many major achievements to celebrate collectively with my communities both locally and, I hope, globally too.

What’s a piece of advice you were given or have learned that you would always stand by?

My wonderful neighbour, friend, and art therapy instructor who also happens to be a Quintain Living resident reminded me:

‘You are not responsible for saving anyone. It’s not your job to exist for people and give your life to them.’

This is a hard lesson to learn especially when one is in a care profession and wants so much to help others, but I am learning that I cannot help anyone if I am hurting or abandoning myself in the process.

If you could have 3 notable or famous people to lunch, who would they be and why?

I would like to have lunch with two ancestors – one from my distant and one from my recent past, and a descendant from the future who hasn’t been born yet. We would have a conversation about our challenges, struggles, joys, gifts, and achievements, the life lessons we have learnt, how to take our learning into the future in a more conscious way, and how to remain true to ourselves.

Which concert or live performance has impacted you the most and why?

Bono of U2. I saw his performance at the O2 a couple of years ago based on his life story called ‘Surrender.’  His voice, songwriting and poetic reflections have been an inspiration for me since I was a child. He has the gift of taking something seemingly mundane and transforming it into something profound and transcendental.

Why did you choose Quintain Living & how did you hear about us?

I have always been drawn to Wembley Park since I was a child as I was fascinated by the amazing live events at Wembley Stadium and I so wanted to go if ever I got the chance. Now I do!

I’d been looking to rent a place in other parts of London but felt disappointed with the tired, rundown condition of the flats that I’d seen, which also happened to be really expensive. Walking around the Wembley Park area, I came across the Quintain Living hub and asked for a viewing.

The moment I walked in the apartment on my viewing, I felt like this was where I wanted to live. The apartment was a newly designed studio and I was the first to live in it - I’ve never had that experience before! Everything was brand new – the furniture, the appliances, the flooring, the paint. I even had a bathtub and a balcony. The Resident team are some of the most wonderful people I have met and the Resident Manager, Greg, is clearly a great team leader.

What’s been the best memory you’ve made whilst living in your apartment?

So many! Most involve sitting on my balcony looking at the glittering lights and the Wembley Stadium arch shining amongst the night sky, watching fans as they rush to and fro to see football matches and music artists. At times, I can hear the music from the Stadium, and there was one time when Coldplay was playing several nights here in 2022, one night it sounded so good from my balcony, I decided to buy tickets. It was such a special concert - I am so glad I went!  Waltzing out of my building and being at the performance within 5mins was great and only 5mins home too. A perk of living so close to a major venue and when you close your balcony door or windows you can’t hear anything.

What are your top 3 favourite things to do in Wembley Park?

So many things! Concerts at Wembley Stadium and OVO Arena Wembley, browsing the sales at London Designer Outlet.  Enjoying a coffee, especially Black Sheep Coffee. I love the vibe there, and the staff, and I enjoy sitting outside when the weather is good.
